How we work

The site we wished existed when we got our own quotes.

Home Energy Compare exists because pricing a solar panel, a battery or a heat pump in the UK shouldn't require handing your phone number to five strangers. Numbers first. Names later, if ever.

Three promises

01

Tools before forms

Every calculator gives full results with no email gate, no phone number, no "unlock your estimate". If we ever gate a result, hold us to this page.

02

Prices you can date-stamp

Every figure carries a "checked" date. We re-check guide prices monthly against real installer quotes and published rates, and correct anything that's drifted.

03

Your details move once

Only when you ask for quotes, only to the (max three) installers quoting, never to a marketing list. No installer ever pays to see your details without your say-so.

How we make money

When you choose to request quotes, the installers we introduce pay us a fixed referral fee — the same fee whoever they are, whatever they quote. That's the business.

Because the fee is fixed, there is no incentive to rank one battery above another, inflate a price range, or push you towards quotes before you're ready. Some guides also carry clearly-marked affiliate links; they never affect what we recommend.

If you never ask for quotes, we earn nothing from your visit — and that's fine. Most visitors don't, and the calculators stay free anyway.

Selling your data Never

How prices get checked

On the first working day of each month we collect fresh installed prices: quotes shared by readers, published installer price lists, and the rates suppliers publish for tariffs and export payments. Guide figures are the middle of that spread, not the cheapest outlier.

When something moves — a VAT rule, a grant closing, a price jump — the guide is updated and the "checked" date rolls forward. If a date on this site looks stale, it is; tell us and we'll fix it.

What we are not

Not an installer. We never quote, sell or fit anything — so we've no reason to talk you into anything.
Not a lead farm. Your details go to the installers quoting you, once, and nowhere else. Three quotes maximum, then we stop.
Not an eco lifestyle blog. We cover costs, savings and kit for UK homes. If it doesn't help you decide, it doesn't get published.

Spotted a stale price? Tell us.

Corrections, quote data you're willing to share, or installers who behaved badly — it all makes the guides better.
