Tools, plans and project briefs
The energy calculators and planner process your answers in your browser. You can use them without providing your name, email or telephone number. Downloading a result creates a file on your device.
If you choose to carry a brief into an enquiry, the site temporarily puts it in your browser’s session storage. The enquiry page reads and removes that stored brief. A brief older than 30 minutes is discarded. You can edit or remove the notes before submitting them.
Previous versions of our tools may have stored inputs on your device. You can clear site data through your browser settings. A browser reset does not remove an enquiry you have already submitted.
When you submit an enquiry
The form collects the contact and property details you provide, together with your notes and any brief you choose to include. It records the source page and relevant tool information so the enquiry has context.
Submitting the form stores the enquiry in Home Energy Compare’s application and sends a notification to its configured administrative inbox. We use the information to review and respond to the request. The consent on the form explains the purpose before you send it.
The Project Better Energy presentation is a prospective partnership. The planner and enquiry form do not automatically send your information to Project Better Energy. If an installer introduction is proposed, its recipient and the information to be shared should be agreed with you first.
Newsletter updates
When you sign up, we store your email address and where the signup came from, and send a welcome email. This is separate from an energy enquiry. You can unsubscribe using the link in the welcome email or by contacting us.
We use your newsletter signup as permission to send the updates described on the form. Sending a project enquiry does not add you to the newsletter list.
Cookies and optional analytics
Essential cookies support functions such as form security and your session. We also store your analytics preference in your browser for up to 180 days.
Google Analytics is optional. It is loaded only after you choose to allow it. It can receive technical and usage information such as pages visited, device/browser information and interactions with the site. We do not add your contact details or energy-bill answers to planner analytics events.
Choosing “Essential only” leaves analytics off. If you withdraw a previous choice, we disable further analytics collection through the site and remove accessible Google Analytics cookies. Withdrawal does not erase information already processed by Google.
Service providers and correspondence
Hosting and email providers process information needed to operate the site and deliver messages. Where enabled, Cloudflare Turnstile checks form submissions to help prevent automated abuse. These services may process technical connection information as part of their operation.
If you email us, we use your address and correspondence to reply and handle the matter. Security and operational records help maintain the service. External manufacturer, supplier and scheme links take you to sites with their own privacy notices.
We rely on the choices you make for optional analytics and newsletter updates, and on handling your request and legitimate operational needs where applicable. We do not use a visit to this site as permission to send marketing or share an enquiry with a prospective partner.
Retention, choices and requests
Enquiry and correspondence information is retained while needed to handle the request and associated records. Newsletter information is retained while you are subscribed; unsubscribing removes the active subscriber record. Copies of previously sent emails and operational backups may remain subject to their retention processes.
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, withdraw consent, or raise an objection or restriction request where the relevant right applies. Email [email protected] with enough information to identify the request. We may need to confirm your identity.
You can also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office. Requests are considered under the applicable data-protection rules.
